Course: Human Microbiome

Our microbiome is the collection of germs that live in and on our bodies. It is unique for each person just like our fingerprint. Our microbiome has evolved with us and functions in orchestrated synchrony with our organs. It can be termed as an invisible organ that we are not aware of.

This short course is about introducing these wonderful germs, how we acquire them, the functions they perform, and what can happen when things go wrong with the microbiome. We will highlight the need to know more about these germs that control not only our immunity but also the digestion of the food we eat, absorption of nutrients, regulation of metabolism and fat storage, hunger satiety, and many more aspects of human health. We will focus on how we can use this knowledge to improve our long-term physical and mental health and wellbeing.
